If you purchase your ticket in advance, you pay up to 50% less than on the vehicle.
De Lijn wants to increase the punctuality and circulation of its vehicles by selling tickets in advance. After all, the fewer tickets drivers have to sell, the less time they lose standing still at stops. We strive to get you to your destination faster. Moreover, the drivers have less money on hand and that is good for security.
You can purchase the various De Lijn tickets at more than 400 locations (Lijnwinkels, newsstands, supermarkets, filling stations, NMBS stations, etc.).
Simplification of fares
De Lijn only uses two fares for card travellers:
- a fare for short distances (1 and 2 zones)
- a fare for long distances (3 or more zones)
Both the one-journey ticket and the Lijn card for several journeys are cheaper if you purchase them in advance rather than on the bus or tram. It is cheapest to travel with a Lijnkaart purchased in advance.
With a Lijnkaart purchased in advance you only pay €0.80 per journey short distance (1-2 zones) instead of €2.00 with a ticket from the driver. A long distance journey (3 zones or more) costs €1.50 instead of €3.00.
Lijnkaart: price per journey
| Zones | Lijnkaart purchased in advance | Lijnkaart purchased on the vehicle | Lijnkaart % purchased in advance | Lijnkaart % purchased on the vehicle |
|---|
| 1 and 2 zones | €0.80 | €1.50 | €0.60 | €1.10 |
|---|
| 3 or more zones | €1.50 | €2.50 | €1.10 | €1.90 |

Become a De Lijn sales point
In 2008 De Lijn transported almost 500 million passengers. That is almost 1.4 million per day!
Why sell tickets in advance?
Selling tickets on the vehicle takes up a great deal of time. To recuperate some of that time, we want to sell as many tickets and Lijn cards as possible outside the vehicle. That's why we are looking for sales points across Flanders.
Market research shows that our passengers prefer to purchase their tickets in a newsstand. Supermarkets and several other sales points are also very popular. Consult our list of sales points to discover who is already a sales point. Advance sales became even more attractive on 1 March 2006: as of that date the tickets sold in advance are almost 50% cheaper. More than 70% of our tickets are currently sold in advance.
Why become a sales point?
If you become a De Lijn sales point you will receive a commercial discount off the market value. Moreover, you will expand your product range and this makes your shop more attractive for thousands of De Lijn passengers who just might become your customer.
