Frequently asked questions

Will I get a refund if I return my pass?

Only passes with a duration of 3 and 12 months are eligible for a refund. A monthly pass is not refunded. An administrative charge of 10 euros is always applied. Travel passes at a discounted rate (Concession travel pass, VG-travel pass, Buzzy Pazz for children from 6-12 and 65+ Omnipas) are not refunded.

  • If you return you pass before the start date of the period of validity, we will pay the price paid for the pass, minus 10% and the administration charge.
  • If you return your pass after the start date of the period of validity, we will refund the pass after deduction of 10 euro in administration charges and an amount calculated based on the date it was returned.
To combat fraud, we will never refund a duplicate of a pass. If a duplicate has already been issued, no refund of the travel pass is possible.

If you return your pass because you received a different pass from De Lijn, then De Lijn will refund your original pass after it has been returned. The amount depends on the number of days that your old pass is still valid on the start date of your new pass. This is also true if your new travel pass is a combined travel pass from another public transport company and De Lijn. In this case a copy of the combined travel pass must be enclosed with the request for refund.

If the travel pass is returned for a refund as a result of the death of the pass holder, then the refund shall be carried out on the basis of the relation between the number of calendar days not used and the number of days the travel pass is valid.

If the amount of the refund, after deduction of the 10 euro administration fee, is lower than 10 euro, this will not be refunded.

Annual travel passes

The amount that we repay is determined by the price of the travel pass. The amount is calculated as follows: price for the pass minus 30% for the first month + 10% for each additional month started. An administration charge of 10 euro is also deducted. From the eighth month no more refunds are possible.

3-month passes

The amount that we refund is calculated on the basis of the price of the pass. The amount is calculated as follows: 30% for the first 15 days + 15% for the remaining days of the first month + 15% for the first 15 days of the second month + 15% for the remaining days of the second month. An administration charge is also deducted. There will be no refund from the third month.

The refund is always done by bank transfer, never at a Lijnwinkel.
Notes:
  • Lijn cards are never refunded when a pass is issued.
  • Travel passes at a discounted rate are not refunded: Concession travel pass, VG-travel pass, Buzzy Pazz for children from 6-12 and 65+ Omnipas are not refunded.
  • If you have already had one or more passes at the full price and you determine that you were actually entitled to a free pass or a reduced price for a pass, then you cannot claim the difference back.
