Today our offer still is not by any means 100% accessible. An accessible trip requires an accessible vehicle and an accessible stop. Increasingly more buses and trams are accessible, but making 40,000 stops accessible requires longer. In addition our stops are often the property of the road authorities and so are not only our responsibility. Until all stops and vehicles are accessible we would ask wheelchair users to book their trip. This is not pleasant but we can only determine whether or not the trip is possible if it is booked. We place the greatest importance here on customer friendliness and the safety of our customers and staff.

To check whether the trip you want to make is accessible by wheelchair, you should best contact the busphone centre.

Do you want to take an accessible bus or tram? Then take account of the following:

  • Booking is essential
  • Do not forget to book your return trip
  • If possible avoid peak times
  • If possible travel with a companion. They will travel free of charge if you have a companion card

How do you book a trip?

To travel with the busphone you should contact the busphone centre at least 2 hours in advance. To travel by ordinary bus (not the busphone) you must book a day in advance.
A member of staff will check whether the vehicle and the bus stops at departure and arrival are accessible. The member of staff will also check whether the space is still available for the wheelchair user.

Select your province for the contact details, practical arrangements and a list of the busphone areas:

Accessibility information during travel

Spoken and written stop notifications

The Coastal tram and Hermelijn trams in Gent and Antwerp are equipped with spoken and written stop notification. The next stop is announced and is displayed on an illuminated screen.

Real-time information signs at stops

At the De Lijn major stops there are real-time information signs. Thanks to GPS on the buses and trams we can give the time of arrival to a minute precise.
