Antwerp has 12 pre-metro stations. An overview is given below of their disabled access arrangements.
The pre-metro stations Astrid, Diamant, Meir, Sport, Zegel and Opera are accessible. People with disabilities can access the platforms quickly and safely via automatic folding doors and glass lifts. A guidance system allows people who are blind or partially sighted to make the transition from the natural guide line to the artificial indicator line.
Braille plates indicate the direction where indicator lines intersect and a choice needs to be made. The danger zones at the bottom and top of stairs and escalators, near lift access doors and along the platform edge are marked with studded tiles. Along the platform edge, a boarding tile is provided at the first wheelchair-accessible door (90 cm x 90 cm). This is a tactile tile in a contrasting colour next to the studded tiles.
The Astrid pre-metro station is located on Koningin Astridplein where it is intersected by Carnotstraat/Gemeentestraat.
Via two outside lifts (on the hotel side (for the platform in the Zuid direction) and on the Astridplein side (for the platform in the Deurne direction)) you can get to the first underground level in order to take tram 8 or 10. From here you can descend further via four lifts to the platforms for tram lines 2, 3, 5 and 6.
