Antwerp has 12 pre-metro stations. An overview is given below of their disabled access arrangements.

Lifts

The pre-metro stations Astrid, Diamant, Meir, Sport, Zegel and Opera are accessible. People with disabilities can access the platforms quickly and safely via automatic folding doors and glass lifts. A guidance system allows people who are blind or partially sighted to make the transition from the natural guide line to the artificial indicator line.

Braille plates indicate the direction where indicator lines intersect and a choice needs to be made. The danger zones at the bottom and top of stairs and escalators, near lift access doors and along the platform edge are marked with studded tiles. Along the platform edge, a boarding tile is provided at the first wheelchair-accessible door (90 cm x 90 cm). This is a tactile tile in a contrasting colour next to the studded tiles.

Astrid

  • The Astrid pre-metro station is located on Koningin Astridplein where it is intersected by Carnotstraat/Gemeentestraat.
  • Via two outside lifts (on the hotel side (for the platform in the Zuid direction) and on the Astridplein side (for the platform in the Deurne direction)) you can get to the first underground level in order to take tram 8 or 10. From here you can descend further via four lifts to the platforms for tram lines 2, 3, 5 and 6.

Diamant

  • The Diamant pre-metro station is located next to Central Station on Pelikaanstraat. There is an entrance on De Keyserlei and next to Central Station at Koningin Astridplein.
  • Two lifts on the Astridplein side (in front of Central Station) take you to the first underground level of the Astridplein car park. From there, follow the signs to the ticket hall of Diamant station, where two lifts give access to the platforms for tram lines 2, 6, 9 and 15.

Meir

  • The Meir pre-metro station is located on Meirbrug.
  • A lift at the corner of Huidevetterstraat takes you to the first underground level. From there, two lifts take you to the platforms for tram lines 3, 5, 9 and 15.

  • The Sport pre-metro station is located at the Sportpaleis in Deurne.
  • Between the Sportpaleis and the Lotto-Arena you can take a lift to the first underground level. From there, two lifts take you to the platforms for tram lines 2, 3 and 6.

Opera

  • The Opera pre-metro station is located on Operaplein at the intersection of De Keyserlei and the Leien.
  • The main entrance (the light well) has a red roof and is located next to the Antwerp Tower at De Keyserlei. From here you can take two lifts to every level of the station.
  • The platform in the Merksem and Hoboken direction and the platform in the Astrid direction can be reached via the lift in the ticket hall next to the Frankrijklei exit
  • There are ascending and descending escalators on the street and on the platforms.
