What is basic mobility?

Basic mobility is a principle from the decree on the Transportation of Persons that prescribes a basic provision of public transport. Everyone who lives in the residential region of Flanders is entitled to a guaranteed provision of public transport.
The following criteria determine the provision of basic mobility:

  • the maximum distance to the nearest stop
  • the number of trips per hour, linked to the maximum waiting time
  • the block of time within which the provision must be available (amplitude)

These standards vary depending of the location (cities, towns, small town and outer area) and the time (peak and off peak times).
