Install speed cushions as a traffic calming strategy
<Voeg een paragraaftitel toe>
On local roads where there is a lot of speeding, local authorities often consider installing speed bumps. However, this is not allowed on roads that form part of a public transport route. Speed tables are possible but these are bound by particular dimensions and subject to recommendations by De Lijn.
Speed cushions are a good alternative. They are more comfortable for buses and priority vehicles and just as efficient to slow down traffic. They cause less noise for local residents and are less costly to purchase and install than bumps or tables.
A drawback is that they are less resistant to wear than other traffic calming devices. Always look at the whole picture: speed cushions are not suited to every location.
