Parking offenders may also hamper public transport. This is why local authorities and police forces should pay special attention to vehicles hindering the smooth flow of bus and tram traffic.
In order to discourage parking offences at bus stops, local authorities can clearly mark the stop on the ground (road surface bus markings) or put up a sign on the bus stop pole indicating that parking is prohibited 15 metres in front of and past a bus stop sign.
More generally, traffic wardens and police officers can keep an eye on vehicles parked in such a way as to hinder traffic, badly positioned stationary vehicles and vehicles illegally using bus lanes and other reserved lanes.
