PRESENTATION

By 2020, Eandis wants to see its CO2 emissions reduced by 20%. "The mobility of our 4 000 staff is a key factor to get there", stresses mobility coordinator Cliff Bourdon. "That is why we are strongly dedicated to sustainable commuting and business travel."

"In 2008, we started developing our mobility policy with the support of an external mobility agency", explains Cliff Bourdon. "First we mapped out the places where our employees live and we drew up an accessibility profile for each of our 40 sites. On the basis of that information, we began introducing measures encouraging sustainable travel habits."

SUSTAINABLE INITIATIVES

Now, Eandis offers a wide range of sustainable initiatives. For instance, it offers free public transport, cyclists' allowances, service bikes in railway stations, Blue-bike shared bikes, dressing rooms and showers. "Each site also has e-bikes available and we provide personalised travel advice", adds Cliff Bourdon.

Carpooling has also become second nature for Eandis. Cliff: "Sharing a vehicle is also encouraged, e.g. through carpool matching and reserved parking spaces. Moreover, during personnel events we provide incentives for colleagues who share a car."

OPEN OFFICES

Things can go even more smoothly. "Practically every Eandis building has an open office. Employees who live more than 25 km away from their workplace can work in an open office in their area up to two days a week", says Cliff. "Last month, there was a total of 500 days worked in an open office. The difference between spending one and a half hours driving in congested traffic and cycling to work in 10 minutes is enormous. You have more energy and are better able to organise day."

SUPPORTIVE ACTION

In order to keep people aware of the possibilities available, Eandis organises various events. "We have recently become leading sponsors of the Car Free Day, we organise a Mobility Month, and each year we have a breakfast day for employees who come to work sustainably. Additionally, we promote the use of our bicycles and organise try-outs with electric cars for duty travel", clarifies Cliff.

"We feel it is important to reach not only people who are already commuting to work in a sustainable way but also colleagues who still (too) often choose to go by car. This is why last year we held a mobility competition for the first time between the different sites, focusing on the number of kilometres travelled sustainably and the number of prevented CO2 kilograms. As many as 1 600 colleagues took part."

FREE BUS AND TRAM SEASON TICKET

According to Cliff, opting for fully pre-paid De Lijn season tickets was a conscious choice. "Eandis wants to be an inspiring pioneer in sustainable entrepreneurship and an attractive employer for potential employees. Free bus and tram transport certainly enhances our image."

ADVANTAGES OF THE PRE-PAYMENT SYSTEM

"The pre-paid tickets scheme also has administrative advantages", explains Caroline De Frene, Team Leader for Administrative and Supervisory Staff at Eandis. "It is easier to have all De Lijn season tickets centralised and pre-paid by us in one lump sum rather than expecting people to buy them themselves, after which we would have to process all those receipts on an individual basis."

According to Caroline, applying for, renewing and cancelling season tickets goes very smoothly. "New De Lijn season tickets are even delivered directly to peoples homes. Easy, and it saves us a lot of work", she concludes.
