Night transport in Leuven and the wider area
There are no fewer than 8 night lines to bring you smoothly to your destination and safely back home again in the evening and at night in the lively Leuven region.
Planning a leisurely restaurant meal, a late night at the pub or an excursion to enjoy one of the many cultural events in your area? At the start of the evening, give a thought to safe transport. No fewer than 8 night lines in the Leuven region – easy to recognise from their initial letter N – will bring you conveniently to your destination and safely back home again in the evening and at night. What’s more, the night buses are completely free for residents of some municipalities.
The night buses run on Friday and Saturday nights between 22.22 and 3.00. For the correct timetable, it’s best to plan your route with the route planner. Earlier in the evening, of course, you can use our familiar services.

Enjoy for free
With the night bus you can travel for free to and from participating municipalities*. All you have to do is have a valid ticket with you while you travel.
Do you have a travel pass? Scan it when you board.
Don’t have a travel pass? Then request a free ticket. This is possible thanks to financial contributions from various municipalities.*
Free transport applies on Friday and Saturday evenings from 10:22 PM.
Your journey must take place on night lines or on regular lines that operate within the area of validity.
*The free night buses are possible thanks to financial contributions from Aarschot, Bertem, Bierbeek, Boutersem, Herent, Kortenberg, Leuven, Oud-Heverlee, Rotselaar and Tervuren.
How do you request your free ticket?
Through the De Lijn website

Note: Are you travelling to Leuven? Then go to the page of the municipality where you will get on. Are you travelling from Leuven? Then go to the page of the municipality where you will get off.
Are you travelling within the city of Leuven or its municipalities (Heverlee, Kessel-Lo, Wilsele, Wijgmaal)? Go to delijn.be/leuvennacht.
Follow this four-step plan:
Complete a one-off registration with your surname, first name, email address and telephone number.
Choose the number of free tickets you want to purchase (maximum 10).
If you are at the bus stop on a Friday or Saturday evening, visit the same web page with your smartphone and activate one or more tickets by tapping the ‘activate’ button. You can only do this from 22.22. Your active ticket or tickets will be valid for 60 minutes.
Show your active ticket to the driver when you board.

Go to your stop from 22.22 on Friday or Saturday evening. Are you travelling within your municipality, to or from Leuven? Then send one of the messages below to 4884:

What happens next?
You will be texted a ticket which you can use to travel for 60 minutes within your chosen municipality, and to or from Leuven.
Show the ticket to the driver when you board.
Tip!
Would you like to order multiple tickets by text with one smartphone? Text the order code followed by the number you want to receive. You will then only pay the operator charge of 0.25 euro once. For example, text ‘LEUVEN NIGHT 2’ (for two people) or ‘LEUVEN NIGHT 3’ (if there are three of you travelling).
Important:
You will only receive a valid text message from 22.22 on Friday or Saturday evening.
Your telecom operator will charge you 0.25 euro to send your ticket by text.
A valid ticket wherever you are
Travelling outside the free zone? Make sure you have a valid ticket. Do you have a travel pass? Great – you can use it on the entire night network of the Leuven region.
Stops and routes
The night buses only serve the stops in the centre, and do not necessarily follow the entire routes of existing lines. However, the lines do serve the stops Leuven Station and Leuven Rector De Somerplein. Some regular lines take the ring road in Leuven.
