The Belgian Alliance for Climate Action
De Lijn’s membership is a logical next step in all the initiatives that we are already taking to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions. We want to run our services on an optimal emission-free basis in urban areas by 2025, and aim to achieve 100% emission-free operations by 2035.
We want to be the driving force behind making mobility in Flanders more sustainable
On 12 October 2020, The Shift, together with WWF-Belgium, launched a new and unique Belgian climate initiative: the Belgian Alliance for Climate Action.
We have joined this alliance and are committed to:
showing more climate ambition.
setting and achieving ambitious
science-based targets* (SBTs)
relating to climate.
* The SBTi offers companies a clearly defined framework towards sustainable growth by indicating by how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Our greenhouse gas reduction target has also been approved by this initiative. In other words, our goals are based on the science and in line with what the IPCC’s latest climate science findings say is necessary to limit global warming to 1.5°C.

Continuing to build the public transport of tomorrow
We want to be the driving force behind making mobility more sustainable in Flanders, for liveable and accessible cities and municipalities. People are increasingly opting for sustainable travel, and public transport must play an even bigger role in this.
