MaaS Alliance

De Lijn is playing a major role in digital integration in this context. MaaS stands for ‘mobility as a service’, meaning that the traveller gains access via a digital platform to sustainable transport services offered by various transport operators (both public and private).

The solution includes real-time multimodal travel information, a payment system and coordinated transport networks and timetables. As a result, combined mobility travel becomes comfortable and accessible. De Lijn plans to become an active MaaS provider and help support other initiatives.

Tom Geerts is the MaaS partnerships manager. You can find out in detail from him what ‘mobility as a service’ means in the following video:

MaaS (mobility as a service) is more than a digital platform (app) offering a combination of different modes of transport. It is also a combination of services: advice, information, booking and payment. A Flemish MaaS Agreement Framework is now being prepared, at the initiative of the Flemish government.

Five stakeholder groups started this process in late 2020: users, MaaS providers, transport providers, local authorities and data brokers were all able to provide input. We are an active participant. Together with the other parties, we have one common goal: to ensure that the MaaS ecosystem works optimally in Flanders. We are involved in this because we see MaaS as a digital lever for the achievement of sustainable combined mobility. In addition, we hope to make various policy recommendations to the government through this Agreement Framework.
