Electric Bus Systems: emission-free transport 2035

De Lijn’s mission is to provide sustainable and attractive mobility for everyone. Deploying Electric Bus Systems (EBS) contributes to this mission.

Our path to sustainable public transport

  • Mission

: as a customer-oriented organisation, we aim to offer completely emission-free public transport – which will be good for the environment and the climate – by 2035.

  • The value of public transport:

public transport plays a crucial role in sustainable mobility. It helps to reduce the number of car kilometres driven and reduce traffic congestion.

  • Improving quality and the travel experience:

we are working constantly to improve punctuality and provide accurate travel information. We are also making public transport more attractive so that travellers will prefer to leave their car at home. The interior of our new generation of e-buses is therefore receiving a significant upgrade.

  • More than just replacing buses:

for De Lijn, emission-free public transport means much more than replacing 3,600 buses. It also includes:

  • converting our depot and IT infrastructure

  • initial and further training for drivers, instructors, technicians, dispatchers and other colleagues

  • recruiting new profiles to implement this new technology successfully

Transforming De Lijn for a green future

A comprehensive greening programme

De Lijn’s greening programme means more than replacing diesel buses with emission-free models. Every part of our organisation must work together to make this project successful.

Working together at all levels

From drivers, instructors, technicians, dispatchers, HR and staff at the legal and financial services to the directors of our business units and the director-general: everyone has a contribution to make.

Investing in people

To support this transition, we’re committed to providing comprehensive guidance to our current employees through retraining, and we’re also recruiting new profiles.

A unique opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to successfully adopt and integrate the new technology – and offer our passengers even better services.
