Grimbergen

The express tram provides a fast connection to the capital.

Better connected with the outskirts and with Brussels

Brabantnet brings two tram lines to Grimbergen: the express tram from Willebroek to Brussels (along the A12) and the ring tram, which passes through Strombeek-Bever. Research shows that 34% of all traffic flows from Grimbergen today are heading to Brussels, and about 15% to Vilvoorde and the surrounding municipalities. The express tram provides a fast connection to the capital. The ring tram ensures that the Flemish municipalities on the edge of the city are better connected. As well as offering people in Strombeek and Grimbergen new and better connections, these tram lines have an additional advantage: they ensure that in the future fewer people park in Strombeek-Bever to transfer to the Brussels tram 3, which will reduce non-local ‘cut-through’ traffic there.

Travel between home and work

The ring tram crosses Strombeek-Bever in 2020, running past a number of important employment centres in the area: Brussels Airport, Medialaan, the CAT site, Vilvoorde town centre and the business zones around the airport. The tram line thus offers a fully-fledged alternative to travelling along the busy ring road. You can also easily transfer to the express tram, which takes you all the way to Willebroek. This will make things easy if your workplace is located on the A12. Finally, with the ring tram you will be able to get easily not just to the airport, but to Vilvoorde railway station.

Convenient leisure and other trips

The ring tram isn’t just for commuters: it brings nearby shopping centres, secondary schools and the hospitals of Jette and Vilvoorde within quick and easy reach. With the arrival of the ring tram, Vilvoorde will also be easily accessible from Grimbergen, for shopping trips, a nice meal or drink out, etc. The introduction of the tram is an opportunity for this centrally located Flemish town to raise its profile.
