Placement, maintenance, repair, and relocation

For both our passengers and the residents of the municipality, it is important that a stop is well maintained and outdated shelters are renewed.

Stop accommodation is not installed or maintained by De Lijn. The municipality is responsible for this.

Installation

The municipality is responsible for preparation and finishing when installing a subsidized shelter. The installation takes place in three steps:

1. Preparation by the municipality

  • The municipality is responsible for excavating the space for the concrete bases of the shelter and the trash can.

  • You will receive exact instructions after your final order.

2a. Installation of a new shelter

The shelter and the trash can are delivered fully assembled on-site by Epsilon Cities.

2b. Installation of a separate trash can and/or bench at an existing shelter

The installation of a trash can and/or bench is fully done by the municipality. The trash can and/or bench is delivered to the municipality's technical service, which installs them.

3. Finishing by the municipality

  • Around the shelter and trash can, the municipality ensures paving with flush embedding of the concrete bases.

  • Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the municipality to regularly maintain the stop accommodation, empty the trash can, and quickly repair any damage.

Maintenance

It is important for our travelers and for the residents of a municipality that stop accommodation is well maintained. Clean shelters, benches, and empty trash cans enhance the street scene and make waiting more pleasant. Furthermore, well-maintained stop accommodation experiences less vandalism.

Who does what?

  • De Lijn is responsible for dressing the shelters with the correct posters and the stop sign.

  • The municipality takes care of cleaning the infrastructure, green maintenance, and regularly emptying the trash can.

  • If your municipality cannot maintain the shelters itself, and you cannot rely on an advertising company, below are some alternatives for maintaining shelters.

De Poetslijn (cleaning service): De Poetslijn is a project jointly developed by Begeleidingsdienst Limburgs Mijngebied (BLM) and De Lijn. This work experience project was started in Limburg in 1997. There are also De Poetslijn branches in the provinces of Antwerp, East Flanders and West Flanders. Shelters are regularly cleaned thoroughly, from floor to roof. Repairs

In case of glass breakage or vandalism, the municipality is responsible for cleaning up the glass. It is important that this is done as quickly as possible. For repairs, the municipality contacts Epsilon Cities or the advertising firm, which performs the repair.

For safety and travel comfort, we recommend having defects to shelters repaired. If the shelter is in a severely outdated state, it may be worthwhile to opt for a completely new shelter.

Removal or relocation

When a stop is permanently abolished, we recommend removing the stop accommodation. Unused shelters often create an unclear situation for travelers. Even if we remove the stop sign and timetable, we regularly receive reports and complaints that travelers are waiting in the shelter for a bus in vain.

The removal of the stop accommodation is done by the firm Epsilon Cities. The municipality arranges this directly and pays a fee for it. The municipality informs De Lijn where the stop sign can be picked up.

In the case of relocating a shelter to another stop, it is important to inform De Lijn so that the stop team can dress the shelter with the correct posters and stop sign again. The nameplate on the shelter must also be adjusted to the correct stop name.
