How busy is it on my bus or tram?

Have you tried our crowd barometer yet? It’s a handy tool in our app that shows you how busy it is on the bus or tram you want to take.

How does it work?

  1. Download the app using the QR code, or go to App Store / Google Play Store.

  2. Enter your stop or route in the app.

  3. You will now see the line(s) with the times of trams or buses.

  4. To the left of the line number you will see a tram or bus icon. That’s not new, but is there a green, yellow or red icon next to it? This indicates how busy your specific ride is right now.

Crowd barometer

In this example, the level of busyness at the stop is yellow. It’s usually busier at big stops such as stations where there are numerous lines. At a stop just after a busy shopping street where many people get off, there are usually more free places. Naturally it will also be busier during the school year than in the school holidays.

In addition to this crowd barometer, you can also see how crowded it is on your vehicle in the ‘Track your ride’ function. You will find this feature in our app: tap on the ‘More’ tab, switch on your bluetooth and give us permission. You can then select the vehicle you are travelling on and track everything in real time.

How do we predict how busy it is?

We do this on the basis of the information we have about your line from the past week. The sources for this information include:

  • the physical counts we perform regularly

  • the registered MOBIB scans

Correct scanning = better travel information

Don’t forget to scan your card correctly. You’ll be helping our crowd barometer by doing so, because it will then know how much space there is on the bus or tram.

Which means that you in turn will know which vehicle to choose after school, your job, trip to the sports club or music lesson.

In a future update, we will add several more parameters in order to predict how busy it is even more accurately.
