The City of Leuven, De Lijn and the institutions involved give you the opportunity to make your travel in Leuven cheap, fast and convenient with De Lijn buses. 

The Student Bus Pass gives you:

• unlimited travel on weekdays and at the weekend

• on all scheduled public bus lines and De Lijn night transport

• pick-up and drop-off stop within the validity area (see map below)

• not valid on the Student express lines 178 and 179

Game rules

Your Student Bus Pass will be loaded on a MOBIB card. This card is not a ticket: it is a medium on which tickets are stored.  Your Student Bus Pass on the MOBIB card is only valid if you scan the card whenever you board or transfer. When you use your Student Bus Pass on a MOBIB card, you must always be able to prove your identity with your e-ID card or your institution’s student card.

Not got your MOBIB card and Student Bus Pass yet? 

• You can buy a blank MOBIB card via our website via 'My account'. Of course, we will also be available for you in a Lijnwinkel to buy your MOBIB card.

  • Don't forget to bring your identity card. If you do not have an ID card or Belgian national register number, please bring a passport photo and a document that proves your identity, such as a driver's license, passport, registration document or birth certificate.

  • Use your student e-mail address and not your personal e-mail.

• You pay a one-off administration fee of 6 euros for the card, which is valid for 5 years.

• This electronic chip card serves as a carrier for your bus pass.

• Once you have your MOBIB card, you can purchase the student bus pass through your educational institution.

Already got a MOBIB card?

• a De Lijn MOBIB card: request the Student Bus Pass through your university or college

• a MOBIB card from another transport operator: go to a Lijnwinkel store. There you can register your card for a De Lijn travel pass, so that your Student Bus Pass can be uploaded to the MOBIB card. Once your card has been registered, you can purchase the Student Bus Pass through your educational institution. 

When will the student bus pass be on my MOBIB card?

As soon as we receive the request from your school, you will receive the student bus pass within a maximum of 14 days.

Did you have a personalised MOBIB card that you have lost?

You need to request a duplicate from De Lijn. Your old MOBIB card will have to be deactivated so that your Student Bus Pass can be uploaded on a new card! 

Does your journey take you outside the validity area?

Your Student Bus Pass is only valid for journeys within the validity area. The stops where you get on and off must both be in this area. If you want to travel further, you will need to buy another ticket when you board.

It’s also easy to manage your travel passes online and check at any time what travel passes you have and when they are valid until. You must use another ticket until you have a MOBIB card with a valid Student Bus Pass on it. You must present a valid ticket in the event of an inspection.

Is your pass already on your MOBIB card?

You can easily check this yourself. Press the info button on a MOBIB scanner on the bus, then scan your card. Your current and future travel passes will be shown. It’s also easy to manage your travel passes online and check at any time what travel passes you have and when they are valid until.
