Diversions due to events and road works
How to avoid leaving your residents high and dry during events and road works
Notify De Lijn in good time. We can then help you inform your residents well in advance about diversions due to events (flea markets, fairs, races, etc.) and road works – especially as these usually take place in the heart of your city or municipality.
With a pre-announced diversion you avoid:
stranded and dissatisfied travellers/residents
travellers/residents unexpectedly waiting in vain at a stop that’s been taken out of service
travellers/residents unable to get to their destination due to a sudden change of route
travellers/residents arriving late at their destination due to excessive delays
Guidelines for events which may obstruct the public road
In the first instance, when planning the location or route (e.g. for a race) for the event, try to safeguard the passage and accessibility of public transport as much as possible.
If the event does take place on a public transport route, send us the annual calendar of events in your city or municipality.
Notify us at least 10 working days in advance.
Guidelines for road works with a serious impact on the public road
In the event of major infrastructure work, you need to inform us three months before the start of the work.
Also remember to:
update the GIPOD in time or notify us if you use another program
install temporary, mobile traffic lights
introduce a parking ban
ensure that the work is phased
create temporary bus lanes or provide exclusive passage for public transport
Note that tram lines may only be interrupted under very exceptional circumstances.
Guidelines for road works with a minor impact on the public road
In the event of minor disruption or work on the public road, notify us at least 10 working days before the start of the work. This applies, for example, to pavement work or renovations, or work during which cranes and trucks create an obstacle and impede traffic.
Emergency situations
In the event of a fire, a sudden water leak, subsidence or other emergencies, our dispatching service will work out an adapted route together with the driver and in consultation with the police and/or fire service.
