Ghent: Papegaai-Annonciaden-Gebr. Vandeveldestraat

Starting Monday, October 6, De Lijn will begin work on the tram tracks on the route between the Rozemarijn Bridge and the Leie (Koophandelsplein). The construction zone will extend in several phases over Papegaaistraat, Annonciadenstraat, and Gebroeders Vandeveldestraat.

During the construction, we are renewing the joint fillings next to the tracks. This will make the road surface smooth and improve the safety and comfort for all road users, especially for cyclists and electric scooter riders. These works will proceed in 4 phases and last about four months in total.

Detours during the construction Phases 2 & 4

  • Public transportation:

    • Tram lines T1 and T3 will continue to operate but at a reduced speed.

    • The 'Oude Houtlei' stop towards Flanders Expo/Zwijnaarde will be temporarily replaced by a stop on Gebroeders Vandeveldestraat (across from the intersection with Oude Houtlei/Iepenstraat).

  • Cyclists

    • Detour via Coupure left.

    • During phase 4, a detour via Veldstraat, Zwartezusterstraat, and Oude Houtlei is provided.

  • Cars:

    • From R40, detour via Martelaarslaan → Nieuwe Wandeling → Hoogstraat. Towards R40 via Hoogstraat → Peperstraat → Rabotstraat → Rabot → Nieuwewandeling.

    • Parking Sint-Michiels is accessible via Sint-Michielstraat (in phase 4).

  • Local traffic:

    • Onderbergen (north and south of the construction zone), Ajuinlei, and Recolettenlei will end in a dead end and be accessible in both directions during phase 4.

    • From Lindenlei, local traffic can go via Pekelharing to Iepenstraat.

Phase 3

  • Cyclists:

    • Through bike traffic is detoured via Onderbergen – Zandpoortstraat to Oude Houtlei.

  • Cars:

    • Onderbergen accessible from Rozemarijnbrug via Coupure Right, Lindenlei, Recolettenlei, and Gebroeders Vandeveldestraat. Oude Houtlei accessible from R40 via Nieuwewandeling to Hoogstraat or via Papegaaistraat and Wispelbergstraat to Hoogstraat.

  • Public transport:

    • Tram T1 and T3 are operating at a reduced speed through the construction zone for safety reasons. There may be possible delays.

    • The tram stop Oude Houtlei towards Gent Zuid (in the Gebroeders Vandeveldestraat) will be temporarily out of service. A replacement stop will be located on Annonciadenstraat near house numbers 23-25.
