Aalst Carnival: join the festivities with De Lijn

When you say Aalst, you think of floats, humor, festivity, and above all: carnival! On February 15, 16, and 17, the carnival city will show its best side again. We will take you there without worry.

Thanks to the city of Aalst, there are extra trips on Sunday, and you can return home every night with free night trips. Coming to the parade by car on Sunday? Park at one of the free city outskirts parking lots and ride to and from the center with a free shuttle bus.

Extra trips on Sunday, February 15

On Sunday, February 15, there are extra departures and returns on eight lines:

Free shuttle buses to and from outskirts parking lots on Sunday, February 15

Still coming by car to Aalst? Park for free on the outskirts of the city at the designated park-and-ride lots of one of the many companies on Sunday, February 15. Take a free shuttle bus to the center between 12 and 4:45 PM. From 5 PM, you can return to the parking lot until 10 PM. Two shuttle buses run every ten minutes.

Shuttle Bus A (blue route)

  • Runs approximately every ten minutes.

  • Route: Wijngaardveld – Treinstraat (at Sint-Annabrug): stops at Car Wash, Tupperware, Wijngaardveld, Honda, Verbrandhofstraat, Treinstraat.

Shuttle Bus B (red route)

  • Runs approximately every ten minutes.

  • Route: Industriepark Zuid – Colinetstraat: stops at Industriepark Zuid, Somati, De Geyndt, Colinetstraat.

  • Remember the color of your shuttle bus and board at the same stop for your return trip.

  • Both the parking and the shuttle bus are free thanks to the city.

Free night trips

During the nights from Sunday to Monday, Monday to Tuesday, and Tuesday to Wednesday, the city of Aalst offers you free night trips on ten lines. This way, you can get home without worries! The free trips follow the same route as during the day.

Changed bus stops during the festivities

From Sunday, February 15, until Wednesday noon, February 18, at 12 PM, the bus station in Aalst is not accessible due to the festivities. Buses will follow an alternative route from the city outskirts to Walstraat - Hoge Vesten - Leo Gheeraerdtslaan or to Sint-Annabrug/Frits De Wolfkaai.

Buy your transit ticket in advance

The night and shuttle buses are free. Normal rates and tickets apply on all other lines. The Aalst line shop is closed from Saturday, February 14, to Tuesday, February 17, due to the festivities. It’s best to buy your ticket in advance through our app, SMS, website, or a ticket machine.
