Tram lines Rechteroever

Tram line 11 resumes its previous route. Tram lines 3, 5, 9, and 15 will have a new travel path on Rechteroever during the works.

What?

During the tunnel renovation, there are no trams running between P+R Melsele and Opera metro station. The 4 tram lines that normally also run on Linkeroever (3, 5, 9, and 15) will have a new route on Rechteroever during the works:

  • Tram lines 3 and 15 will be merged into the new (temporary) tram line A3.

  • Tram lines 5 and 9 will be merged into the new (temporary) tram line A9.

Why the letter A in the name? It obviously refers to 'Antwerp,' but it also indicates that it's an Alternative tram line. By the start of the tunnel renovation, tram line 11 will also be back in service on Rechteroever.

Tram line A3 (merging tram lines 3 and 15)

  • Tram lines 3 and 15 will be temporarily merged.

  • They will have a new route between P+R Merksem and P+R Boechout.

  • The new tram line will no longer head towards Opera metro station but will connect Astrid and Diamant metro stations.

Once the timetable for the new tram line is known, you will find it in our app and route planner. Schedules will also be available at stops.

Tram line A9 (merging tram lines 5 and 9)

  • Tram lines 5 and 9 will be temporarily merged.

  • They will have a new route between Wijnegem and Antwerp-Berchem train station.

  • The new tram line will no longer head towards Opera metro station but will connect Astrid and Diamant metro stations.

Once the timetable for the new tram line is known, you will find it in our app and route planner. Schedules will also be available at stops.

Resumption of tram line 11

  • From the start of the tunnel renovation, tram line 11 will be back in service.

  • The tram line will resume its familiar route between Antwerp-Berchem train station and the Melkmarkt.

  • Modern trams will be used, capable of carrying more passengers.

  • Thus, line 11 will once again provide an above-ground connection from Central Station, via Rooseveltplaats and along Meir, to the historic heart of Antwerp.

  • Trams on line 11 will operate with increased frequency during the works. Even after the works, line 11 will continue to operate.
