Does your employer pay for your commute?

Do you commute to work by bus or tram? Then you can travel to work more cheaply or even for free with De Lijn. Your employer is legally required to pay at least 71.8% of the costs for your subscription, single tickets, and travel cards.

What do you need to know?

  • Applies to your commute by bus, tram, and metro.

  • Many employers pay more than the legal minimum — up to 100% — and also cover the administrative costs for the MOBIB card. Discuss this with your employer.

  • If you receive a bike allowance, please note that depending on your collective bargaining agreement or employer, you may not be able to combine this with a pass. Combining it with tickets or a ride card

    is usually possible.

Benefits of the third-party payment system & the Business Portal

Thanks to the third-party payment system, your employer gains access to the Business Portal where they can purchase season passes, 10-ride and 50-ride cards for you.

Not paying anything upfront yourself

Your employer receives the invoice for their part. De Lijn asks you to pay any remaining balance. Then you will receive your subscription or travel card.

No administration

No need to submit receipts or wait for your reimbursement.

Easily arranged via the Business Portal

  • Select the appropriate ticket(1-, 3-, or 12-month pass or 10- or 50-ride card).

    • For a pass: your MOBIB card number (19 digits). If you don’t have a card yet, your employer can request one via the Business Portal.

    • For tickets or ride cards: provide the email address of your De Lijn account.

  • Share your details with your employer.

  • Your employer submits the request.

  • Does your employer only contribute part of the cost? Then you will receive a payment request for the remaining amount.

The trial offer is free for your employer and consists of a digital 10-ride card that is valid for 1 month.
