We regularly optimize our network

We constantly scrutinise our travellers' experiences, we listen and analyse all questions. We do this, for example, by better aligning the schedule with new train and/or school hours, shifting a trip to accommodate more passengers, or adjusting the frequency or route in certain areas to match use or demand. In this way, we ensure a reliable and efficient service for everyone, across all regions.

New depot at the Wissenhage site in Wondelgem

De Lijn urgently needs a new depot and workshop. The current depots in Gentbrugge and Destelbergen are facing a severe shortage of space. They lack the necessary facilities and space to switch to electric buses and modern trams. Additionally, with more tram lines being introduced, extra space is needed to house trams. Therefore, we have been searching for a suitable site for a new, modern, large depot.

Free transport for anyone aged 6 to 14

Young people aged 6 to 14 years living in Ghent (domiciled in Ghent) can apply for a free travel pass (valid for 12 months) via the portal www.delijn.be/buzzygent. For children who turn 6 during the year, a travel pass may be requested 3 months before their 6th birthday at the earliest.

By requesting a free travel pass, you give De Lijn permission to place it on your MOBIB card. This will be done provided you belong to the target group and the city of Ghent does not terminate the scheme.

  • If you don’t yet have a MOBIB card, you will receive a personalised MOBIB card displaying your photo and with your travel pass on it, free of charge.

    • De Lijn takes this photo from the National Register. If a photo is not available there, you can submit one online.

    • If for some reason we cannot recognize you as an entitled person, you will receive an email from us within 7 working days after your registration via the website to tell you what to do in that case.

If you continue to have problems, just call in at a Lijnwinkel store in Ghent. They’ll be happy to help.

Check that your travel pass has been placed on your MOBIB card:

  • At the validation machine on the vehicle by pressing the information button.

  • By creating an account on our website; you will then be able to see exactly what tickets are on your card.

Note: Even if you have a free travel pass, we expect you to validate it whenever you board a vehicle.
