Watch out for the tram. Always. Everywhere.

Did you know that a (Coastal) tram weighs up to 40 tons? That's as much as a herd of giraffes. And just like such an animal, it doesn't stop easily. That's why the tram always has priority.

07 April 2026 - Tips, information and news

The tram is a unique mode of transportation.

  • At a speed of 30 km/h, a tram needs up to 40 meters to come to a complete stop. That's almost half a soccer field. Every second counts.

  • A tram runs on tracks. That means: no swerving possibilities. If you cross unexpectedly, the driver can do nothing but brake – and hope it's in time.

Tips: Staying Safe

  • We often see it: people crossing in dangerous places, between parked cars or just behind a curve. This increases the risk of accidents. Always use crosswalks or marked crossing places, and only cross when you're sure it's safe.

  • Smartphones and tracks are not a good combination. Quickly sending a message or choosing music while crossing? It seems harmless, but it makes you less alert. Keep your eyes on the road and your mind on the traffic.

  • Look both left and right. A tram can come from both directions. Especially at busy intersections or if you're slightly distracted, a tram can appear faster than you think.

  • Whether you're walking, cycling, driving, or scooting: be alert at tram tracks. Stop, look, and listen.
