Ghent: construction project Ghent-Sint-Pieters

Timing: Monday 1 January 2007 to Tuesday 31 December 2028

29 April 2022 - Tips, information and news

What do these works entail?

Gent-Sint-Pieters station was built on the eve of the 1913 World Expo. It became the driving force behind the development of an entirely new part of the city. About a century later, we are facing a project of similar magnitude: adapting the station and its surroundings to meet today’s needs.

With the Gent-Sint-Pieters Project, the project partners aim to:

  • Create a hub for sustainable mobility where different modes of transport are well integrated. Concretely, this means: a renovated train station with an integrated tram and bus terminal, sufficient and comfortable bicycle parking, easily accessible car parks, kiss & ride zones, and a taxi zone.

  • Transform the area into a pleasant and sustainable place to live and work, with a concentration of offices, housing, commercial facilities, and an additional school near the station.

  • Develop an attractive, safe, accessible, and cohesive public space with renewed access roads, new squares and parks. This also includes clear and safe walking and cycling routes between the city center and other districts.

Your safety comes first

When there are diversions, we always determine the correct locations of the temporary stops (including final stops) in consultation with the local government.

Our regulations also state that drivers can only let you on and off at these stops that have been formally determined (with the local government).

  • This is to ensure both your own safety and that of other road users.

  • Also, from an insurance point of view, you would not be covered in the event of any accidents getting on or off the bus outside these formal stops.

We thank you in advance for your understanding of this temporary situation and for your courtesy to our drivers.
