De Lijn Flex in the province of East Flanders

In the province of East Flanders there are four different major regions: the Dender Region, the Gent Region, the Flemish Ardennes Region and the Waasland Region. Where and when does the flexbus run in your region? Find out on this page.

Dender Region

Dender Region flex area 

In the Regio Dender flex zone , the flex bus operates in the municipalities of Aalst, Berlare, Buggenhout, Denderleeuw, Dendermonde, Erpe-Mere, Haaltert, Hamme, Lebbeke, Lede, Ninove, and Wichelen. You can also travel to a number of stops in Wetteren.

Gent Region

In the Ghent region, flexible transportation is available in all municipalities. There are two different flexible transportation zones in this region. Check the flexible transportation zone pages for Ghent East and West to see which stops offer the flexbus.

Gent (East) Region 

The Flexbus operates within the Ghent Region (East) Flex Zone in the following municipalities: Nazareth-De Pinte, Destelbergen, Ghent, Laarne, Lochristi, Merelbeke-Melle, and Wetteren. The Flexbus also serves several key (transfer) stops in neighboring municipalities.

Gent (West) Region 

The Flexbus operates within the Flex Area Ghent (West) in the following municipalities: Aalter, Assenede, Deinze, Eeklo, Evergem, Gavere, Ghent, Kaprijke, Lievegem, Maldegem, Merelbeke-Melle, Nazareth-De Pinte, Sint-Laureins, Sint-Martens-Latem, Lochristi, Zulte, and Zelzate. The flexbus also serves several key (transfer) stops in neighboring municipalities. From Maldegem, you can also cross the border into the Netherlands (toward Aardenburg and Sluis) via the Maldegem–Sluis flex zone.

Flemish Ardennes Region 

Flemish Ardennes Region flex area 

In the Flemish Ardennes region, you can count on the Flexbus. The Flemish Ardennes Flex Zone consists of the municipalities of Brakel, Geraardsbergen, Herzele, Horebeke, Kluisbergen, Kruisem, Lierde, Maarkedal, Oosterzele, Oudenaarde, Ronse, Sint-Lievens-Houtem, Wortegem-Petegem, Zottegem, and Zwalm. The Flexbus also serves several key (transfer) stops in the neighboring municipalities.

The extra late-night shuttle bus on Friday and Saturday evenings in the Oudenaarde area will no longer run as of July 1, 2026.

Waasland Region 

In Waasland, we are reorganizing the flexible transport zones. In the Waasland (East) flexible transport zone, the flexbus will now also serve Sint-Niklaas. Kruibeke, Bazel, and Rupelmonde are no longer part of this flexible transport zone. Service to these latter boroughs will be taken over by the Antwerp Region (Left Bank) flex zone, which will be active throughout Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht starting July 1. The former Waasland Region (West) area is being split into two sub-areas to further improve the efficiency of flex transport: the smaller Waasland Region (West) area and a new Waasland Region (North) area. The maximum distance for a flex ride in the Waasland region is 10 kilometers.

Waasland Region (East) flex area

The Waasland (East) flex area will consist, as of July 1, 2026, of the municipalities of Sint-Niklaas and Temse, as well as parts of the municipalities of Stekene and Sint-Gillis-Waas.

Waasland Region (West) flex area 

In the Waasland (West) flex area, the flexbus will operate starting July 1, 2026, in the municipalities of Lokeren, Waasmunster, and Zele, as well as in parts of Sint-Niklaas (Sinaai). You can also travel to the Puyenbroeck Provincial Park.

Waasland Region (North) flex area

In the Waasland (North) flex area, the flex bus will operate starting July 1, 2026, in the municipalities of Stekene and Sint-Gillis-Waas, and partially in Lokeren (Moerbeke) and Beveren-Kruibeke-Zwijndrecht (the towns of Kieldrecht and Verrebroek).
