Antwerp: renewal of tram tracks between Groenenhoek and Silsburg
Starting Saturday, November 1, 2025, we will be renewing the tram tracks on tram line 9 between the Groenenhoek stop and the final stop at Silsburg. These works are necessary to ensure the safety, comfort, and reliability of our services.
20 October 2025 - Tips, information and news
Adjusted schedule for tram line 9
During the works, tram line 9 will only run between P+R Linkeroever and Berchem Station. The tram will use the turning loop at Groenenhoek. The route between Berchem Station and Silsburg will be taken over by shuttle buses, which will operate with a similar frequency and distribution as the tram.
Extensive track renewal
The track works will take place at five different locations between Groenenhoek and Silsburg. The tracks are at the end of their lifespan in these areas and will be completely renewed. The works are expected to continue until at least the spring of 2027, depending on the further planning of the Boekenberglei project.
Reconstruction of Herentalsebaan
The entire street on Herentalsebaan will be renewed. The first part, in front of AZ Monica, has already been completed and did not impact tram traffic. The second phase—from AZ Monica to Silsburg—will start soon. Tram tracks will also be renewed here. Tram line 9 will continue to operate on this route until October 31.
Other locations of track renewal
Besides Herentalsebaan, tracks will also be renewed at:
Boekenberglei
Cruyslei
Gitschotellei
Borsbeeksebrug
Renewal at these locations is necessary for a safe and reliable tram connection.
Alternative transportation
As of November 1, we will provide shuttle buses between Berchem Station and Silsburg. This way, all stops remain accessible during the works.
