De Lijn strives for continuous improvement of the accessibility of its provision. In this way people who are less mobile can easily use public transport. These are not only wheelchair users but also people with pushchairs, passengers with a lot of luggage or people who are temporarily less mobile (e.g. with a broken leg).

De Lijn defines the accessibility policy

The accessibility policy plan defines the lines for the coming years and is based on the principles of universal design: more accessibility ensures a user-friendly, safe and comfortable experience for everyone.

The main thrusts of the plan are:

  • A clear role for public transport and for adapted transport
  • More accessible vehicles and stops
  • A label for aids suitable for public transport
De Lijn will cooperate for this with the accessibility area in Flanders. In this way user organisations, the Flemish Accessibility Centre of Excellence and the provincial advisory groups will be involved in developing the plan. The local governments will also be encouraged to work more on the accessibility of the stop infrastructure.
