Some municipalities give their residents and visitors a discount on a Lijn card that allows you to travel within a certain area. Under this deal, as a passenger you can purchase a 10-journey Lijn card with a municipal discount for €10. The passenger pays €1 per journey, and the local government pays the difference from the actual Lijn card rate (€1.60 per journey).

How do I use my Lijn card?
Scan your Lijn card
Our travel passes have been held on a MOBIB card for some time. Scan your ticket or pass on an electronic card whenever you board or transfer. You need to scan for every trip and every person.
Scan your 10-journey Lijn card whenever you board or transfer, near the driver or at a scanner further down the vehicle. You can use as many buses and trams as you like within 60 minutes and then complete your ride.
Do you want to know how many trips are left on your card? First press the info button on the scanner and then scan your card. You’ll then be able to see how many journeys are left on your card or how long your ticket is still valid for. You can also use the info button on the ticket machines. Here too you can see how many journeys are left on your Lijn card.
If you use a 10-journey Lijn card for several people, scan it once for each person in rapid succession (within two minutes).
What about the magnetic cards?
From 1 July 2020, the validation devices for magnetic cards will no longer be usable on any of our vehicles. The one exception to this is the Coastal Tram, on which you can still pay with a Lijn card until 30 September 2020.
Act quickly to exchange your ticket on a magnetic card and receive a discount on a ticket on an electronic card or sms-ticket.
How do I use my Lijn card (including on a magnetic card) on the Coastal Tram (until 30 September 2020)?
If you use the yellow machine on the left when getting on or at different doors, you must validate the ticket yourself. Select 1 on the machine. If you are travelling with several people, you must validate the ticket for each person.
If the valid duration (60 minutes) expires while you are on the vehicle, you may end the journey. So you do not have to get off nor buy another ticket.
A balance is recorded on this Lijn card rather than a certain number of journeys. Even if you still have an old Lijn card (which was cheaper), you must pay the applicable fare for each ride (1.60 euros). If you have an older card, you therefore won’t have a sufficient balance left on your Lijn card to make the tenth journey.
