You don’t build an accessible app alone. You need help for that. A lot of help, in fact. Fortunately, during the development of the simple mode, we were able to count on the members of Our New Future from Ghent, an association of and for people with intellectual disabilities.

Conducting Research Together
During the research phase, various members of the nonprofit Onze Nieuwe Toekomst in Ghent shared their experiences, provided valuable feedback, and described the challenges they face along the way.
Their insights helped us build an app that is simpler, clearer, and more accessible for more travelers. And that’s something Lies truly believes in. “I think it’s very important to be mobile—and to stay that way,” she says.
Putting Suggestions into Action
The members of “Onze Nieuwe Toekomst” actively contributed ideas for possible improvements. For example, Dimitri pointed out that speech technology would be a major benefit for him. “I can’t read or write at all, so it would be helpful for me if the app included speech technology.”
Time to Look Back
Meanwhile, the simple mode has been available in our app for several months now. That’s why we stopped by to visit Carli, Dimitri, and Lies. How do they remember that research phase? And were they satisfied with the collaboration?
The answer is clear. “I feel like I was able to help make that app accessible to everyone,” says Carli. Dimitri adds: “For everyone, for all people with disabilities.”
